Big Check for "Mental Health First Aid USA"

Ely Rotary (President Joe Owens and Ely Rotarian and Assistant District 5580 Governor Craig Loughery) presented a $500 check to Peggy York Jesme for the Well Being Development Group "Mental Health First Aid USA " course to be held at VCC on February 7 and 8, 2012. The Phoenix Group and the Northern Lights Clubhouse are also sponsors of this course. The Ely Rotary gift will assist in scholarships for attendees to the course as well as to ensure the attendance of mental health family members to learn how to deal with mental health issues. October 12, 2011 Meeting

Announcements - next week District Governor Tom Riley and his wife Ann will be visiting our club. They will meet with the board on Tuesday evening and will attend the regular lunch meeting on Wednesday.

Program - Betsy Leustek brought our two RYLA 2011 representatives, Tricia Angus and Olivia Schleffer. The girls made time during busy Ely Memorial Homecoming activities to come to our meeting and report on their experiences at Crookston. At the conclusion, they were presented with their leadership awards.

October 5, 2011 Meeting

-- The Road Clean-up will take place next Wednesday, Oct 12. Meet at 5 pm on the riverbank in our stretch of Highway 1 (near the 296 mile marker.)

-- The District Governor and his wife will be visiting us for an dinner Board Meeting on Oct 18 and our Lunch Meeting Oct 19.

-- Please keep in mind our challenge this year is for each member to bring in a new member.

September 21, 2011 Meeting

CONGRATULATIONS to Ed and Joyce Berg who celebrated their 15th anniversary today!

WELCOME: New Rotarian Evan Faltesek.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Plans are underway for our Winter Fest event.

-- It is time to pick up all the Penny Jars.

-- A meeting will be held Monday, Sept 26 at the GEL for new Rotarians and those interested in becoming a Rotarian. Call Ward for more information.

-- Next Wednesday our meeting will be held in the evening at the Boy Scout Base on Moose Lake beginning at 5. If you are bringing a guest, please email Carl.

September 14, 2011 Meeting

NEWS: Happy Birthday to Woods and to Robyn and Congratulations to Jerritt for completing a 50 mile ultra marathon!

GUESTS: Prospective members Evan and Mark, Doug's son-in-law, and from the Wolf Center: Mary Ortiz, Executive Director, and Keith Youngquist, Director of Finance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: It is time to collect all the Penny Jars.

A committee consisting of Joe Owens, Carl Boyles, Kelly Klun and Jerritt Johnson are planning an event to be held during the Winter Festival.

A committee is being formed to review our By-Laws. Another member is needed for this group, to join Ward Nelson, Joe Owens and Susan Kasbeer.

Diane Loughery will be our organizer for the joint service club holiday party.

The 2012 auction will be co-chaired by Susan Kasbeer, Diane Loughery and Betsy Leustek.

Chuck Kasbeer has resigned from the club.

PROGRAM: Joany & Ward briefed us on the Pagami Creek Fire that now encompasses over 100,000 acres.

September 7, 2011 Meeting

Our program featured Lolita Schnitzius, of the Ely Golf Club, telling about the recent Ryder Cup competition between Ely, Cambridgeshire, UK and Ely, Minnesota, USA. In its 4th year, the Texas Scramble competition pits teams from both clubs against each other in simultaneous matches at their respective courses.

Member News:

Betsy Leustek was fined for the appearance, in color, of her son Nathan on the cover of the Merchant Marine Academy's 2011 Football Program.

This was John Cantrell's last meeting of the season, as he heads back South.

Evan Faltesek was welcomed as a guest and prospective new member.

Next meeting will be Wednesday, September 14 at the Grand Ely Lodge. (4 photos below)
